Established in 2011 by The Gruber Foundation, the Gruber Science Fellowship is awarded to the most highly ranked applicants to Yale PhD programs in the life sciences, cosmology, and astrophysics. This Fellowship is the most prestigious award offered by Yale’s Graduate School of Arts and Sciences to incoming science students in recognition of their outstanding accomplishments and exceptional promise.
http://gruber.yale.edu/science-fellowship Abigail Jarret from the Ram Lab and Susana Orozco from the Oberst Lab taught a workshop on junk food protein quantification at this years Seattle Expanding Your Horizon Conference. Just down the hall several members of the Gale lab led a workshop focused on exploring innate immunity and infectious disease. Members of the Gale lab were even featured on KING5 local news! "Seattle Expanding Your Horizons (SEYH) is a hands-on conference that encourages girls to explore the world of math, science and technology. Women biologists, botanists, engineers, veterinarians, and many other local professional women enthusiastically volunteer their time to host workshops that introduce girls to exciting careers involving math, science and computer technology."

"The fields of macrophage and dendritic cell biology diverged decades ago and have evolved in a relatively independent fashion. In particular, dendritic cell meetings are devoting considerable attention to adaptive immune responses while macrophage meetings focus on innate immunity. Yet, it is clear that both cell types share many common properties and eventually contribute to a protective immunity. This meeting therefore aims to reunite the two communities of scientists. The meeting is equally divided into basic biology and sessions dedicated to the importance of these cells in pathology including allergy, autoimmunity, cancer and infectious disease. Emphasis is on human diseases in order to educate and engage physician-scientists, both trained and in training." http://www.keystonesymposia.org/15C4 |
